Bathroom Design Ideas For Small Renovations

When you have a few good bathroom design ideas ready to go, you may find yourself running into some small projects along the way. With small bathroom renovations, you can find yourself with major headaches quickly when there are small problems that end up being larger problems including those with plumbing and electrical problems. The size of the bathroom itself is not necessary going to help you to stay within a budget, unless you plan ahead.

When Size Hurts

One of the many troubles people have with bathroom design ideas is handling problems around the small size. You may find that there is not enough space in the area and this will cause delays as well as problems getting started. More so, you will be limited to where things can be moved. Even the door may be too small to get large bathtubs into it. In some construction jobs, the final walls were not put in until all of the fixtures and tubs were in place, which means that your home could have been built around that tub!

Another problem with the small space is the floor covering and wall covering. While you will need less, you may find that the tight space limits the area where you can put it in, and makes the cutting and fitting job more difficult than it should be. You may need additional space in another section of the home to get the cutting done.

Floor Plan Changes

In some small bathroom designs, it may become impossible to change the layout of the bathroom. It may be that there is only one wall that is large enough to accommodate the bathtub in that area. If you try to move it to another area, you may not have enough room for something else. When considering your bathroom design ideas, keep in mind that you do need to consider how the layout can be changed successfully.

In most cases, small changes in the layout and bathroom design can happen in a small bathroom renovation. In other situations, they may need to stay, which may limit what you can do to updating fixtures and improving the overall appearance of the room. Still, it may not fit your overall goal. To make the room seem larger, brighten up the colors you select from the walls and the flooring. This gives it the appearance of looking larger and will improve the overall look.

Refreshing Bathroom Design Ideas

When you want to redecorate your bathroom and give it a whole new look, you can get many bathroom design ideas in magazines and online. Here you will find the latest trends in designs for bathrooms and indeed for every room of the home. The trend today looks at transforming the bathroom of your home into a mini-spa where you can relax in comfort and soak away the aches and pains of the day.

The minimalist spa design uses straight lines drawing inspiration from nature. Gently flowing water into a jetted tub with walls covered in aromatic wood and floors of slate give the room an outdoor feel and look. The colors for the bathroom of this kind should be calm and neutral, such as soft beiges, whites and grays. The fixtures you use in this type of bathroom should be simple consisting of geometric shapes and low, sleek lines. They should not predominate the look of the room. Wall-mounted fittings that have few ornamentations are best.

Another design that is a popular in modern bathrooms is the use of bold colors. Fixtures for the bathroom cow come in an array of colors and designs that make a bold statement. Dark colors such as bleu green and red are dominant, but so are lighter shades of yellow and green. Sinks and tubs come in a variety of styles and the countertops are available in granite and marble to make the bathroom a true place of beauty and elegance.

If you have a vintage bathroom in which you want to keep the same fixtures and tub, you can still redecorate with the use of color. You can match the vintage style to the colors, but you do have to exercise caution in matching the colors. You have to make sure you utilize the space and not make the room look overcrowded. Placing dark and white colors together may not achieve your goal in redesign.

Bathroom Design Ideas - Decorating Can Be A Fun And Pleasant Experience

If you are preparing to build a new bathroom or to renovate an old one, you will like to consider some bathroom design ideas which will help you to make it the most efficient and the most attractive that you have ever had in your home.

Designing the perfect bathroom does not need to be a time-consuming or difficult chore. In fact, you may find that it is a quite pleasant experience. Whether you are starting from scratch or simply making some improvements, designing the room of your dreams can be fun.

What Do You Want Your Bathroom To Be?

The best way to start is by thinking about the specific needs and tastes of you and your family members. When you have this in mind, you will be prepared to begin making decisions about the styles of furnishings and color-schemes. It is also helpful if you consider the type of appearance that you would like your bathroom to have -- for example, do you want your room to be casual and functional, a haven for relaxation, or something special primarily designed for your guests? When you have the answers to these basic questions, this will give you a good foundation on which to base your choices.

Children's Requirements

The specific types of furnishings that you select are best chosen on the basis of what is most appropriate for the use of your bathroom. If you have small children or active teenagers, you may prefer sturdy furnishings that are not easily damaged. A bathroom that will serve for the use of young children would be best if safety is the key factor, such as locked cabinets, and furniture which does not have sharp edges.

If your bathroom will "belong" only to adults, the sky is the limit with its potential-- reflecting your personality and your own individuality, it can be anything from a romantic hideaway for a couple, a lovely spot for your guests, or simple and efficient for those who have little time at home before and after a busy work day.

Bathing Essentials

After you have decided which types of furnishings will work the best for your bathroom, the next step is to add the "essentials" such as bath linens. You may also like to include nice little extras such as toilet seat covers and either fluffy or rubber bath mats. If you have decided on a color-scheme for your bathroom, these items can enhance that theme.

When you have covered all of the items which are necessary for your bathroom, you can add decorative touches so your room will look even better. Depending on your own individual interests, these can include baskets of greenery, small earthenware pottery, fancy bead work-- let your imagination be your guide!

It is not difficult to turn a plain room into the bathroom of your dreams. All you need to do is to incorporate your own personal sense of style into what is both practical and beautiful in appearance, and you will have the bathroom design ideas you will need to make it your favorite room in your home.

Small Is Beautiful - Small Bathroom Design Ideas

Small bathroom design is essential when trying to meet your bathroom demands in a small space. Having a small bathroom does not mean your have to sacrifice style or fittings, so this is a brief guide to give you some small bathroom ideas.

If you are trying to fit your small bathroom suite in to a room the size of a phone box then give it the tardis touch by creating an illusion of space. This can be achieved with careful and creative use of colour, glass and mirrors. Using light coloured bathroom tiles or paint is essential to creating a spacious feel. Do not be afraid to add contrast with splashes of darker colour but over doing it will turn your bathroom in to a cave. Use white as a base and add pastel shades to add dimension and create warmth.

Natural light is an obvious bonus but if you are not blessed with a window consider velux or roof windows, even a window from an adjacent room will help. Use glass shower doors instead of curtains, or glass blocks instead of plasterboard for partitions. The clever use of mirrors can add the illusion of depth when put in the right place, but be sparing and don't place them opposite each other. You want to create the illusion of extra space not make your bathroom an amusement ground attraction.

Good small bathroom design is more than just colour and materials, carefully chosen fittings will maximize space and define your bathroom style. Think about storage, where are you going to put your bathroom towels and accessories. You can have a vanity basin and storage beneath the sink, but a better use of space would be floating cupboards up out off the way. Shelves, door hooks and sliding doors on cupboards are all helpful additions when utilizing every square foot.

A heated towel rail can double up as a radiator giving heat, reducing the need for floor space and providing somewhere to hang and dry your towels. The shape and design of your bath or shower is also very important. Go for a deep bath rather than a long or corner bath as they are much more efficient with floor space whilst being functional and comfortable. If you have a square shower cubicle think about changing it for a curved one with clear unpatterned glass. Basins and toilets also come in a range of shapes and sizes to suit your bathroom size and design.

With a little time spent on planning and maximizing your bathroom space you can make your small bathroom ideas becomes a gleaming reality.

Bathroom Design Ideas - Decisions, Decisions!

Regardless of any bathroom design ideas you have, the real deciding factor is the kind of bathroom you have already. There are plenty of features you might like but that doesn't mean they will be suitable for your bathroom.

So when it comes to your bathroom design brief, make sure the features and style you choose fits in with the bathroom itself. Designing a small bathroom is obviously a challenge but the same can be said for a larger space. Bathroom design software is widely available these days and many companies will be able to use this in order to give you an idea of how the fixtures, fittings and features will shape up in the space available.

Size and dimensions obviously dictate your choice of bath, shower, toilet and basin, but there are other factors to consider. The space available and the light and shade of the bathroom should also have an effect on the bathroom tile designs and flooring style you choose, and of course colour choice is essential.

The style of your home as a whole can also provide inspiration for bathroom design ideas. And more to the point, your bathroom has to fit in with the interior decoration of the rest of your home. If you have a traditional look to your home, state-of-the-art design might not sit well in your bathroom, no matter how much you covet those modern appliances. Similarly, if you have a very contemporary look to the rest of your living space, a rustic style for your bathroom will be incongruous. But, hey, if it's time to update the whole of your home, feel free to start at the bathroom and work your way from there!

The next point to consider is your lifestyle. You have to vet your bathroom design ideas according to your living situation; a family of four or five will need a completely different bathroom to singles or couples. And let's not forget the older generation - they have a whole set of design criteria of their own, and the choice of bath especially could be key.

We're not finished yet - there are yet more factors to consider. How long do you plan to stay in your home? If you are thinking of putting your property on the market in the next few years then you should steer clear of any idiosyncratic design features that might not appeal to everyone. Try to make your design as clean and neutral as possible. That doesn't mean your bathroom has to be bland; just get the basics right and your bathroom will still be beautiful and highly functional.

However, if you're there for the long term, go for it! Express yourself and design a bathroom that will appeal to your very own style sensibilities. But bear in mind that fads and fashions fade. What looks like the hottest design feature today might look gauche and gaudy tomorrow. There are plenty of design styles and features that have stood the test of time, however, so choose wisely.

But most of all, have fun! Don't look upon your bathroom refurbishment as a trial - making your design ideas a reality can be hugely rewarding and satisfying.

Small Bathroom Design Ideas

Hotel Bathroom with ShowerImage by Kevin H. via Flickr

Like most homeowners you probably wish you had a larger more luxurious bathroom in your home. If adding any more square footage is out of the question there are some design ideas that can make your small bathroom at least look and feel bigger and seem less cramped.

Bathroom remodeling ideas need not be limited to big, luxurious bathrooms that have more generous space and therefore are more able to move around their bathroom fixtures and remodeling plumbing and electrical outlets. Most homes will have small bathrooms and a small bathroom can have a cozy and intimate feel. However too often bathrooms are not looked at as a space where one can spend quality time. As a result many bathrooms are usually just designed to be comfortable and efficient enough.

Regardless of the style you choose to decorate your small bath, it nevertheless will remain a small bath. You can by using by using the right colors and lighting design, create a posh and cozy bathroom retreat.

Theories concerning space enlargement will apply to a bathroom as well as to any other room in your home. For example you might want to consider replacing a large vanity with a more stylish p pedestal sink.

You should cut back on anything that sticks out too much in the bathroom. See if you have any wall shelves, hanging racks, or decorative accessories on the walls that make your bathroom look smaller. Doing this should help make the bathroom feel larger.

You can create the illusion of height in your bathroom through the use of more vertical lines. For instance having bathroom tiles that go all the way to the ceiling or vertical stripes in a wallpaper pattern can also help make a small bathroom seem larger. Lining the edge of your ceiling with a border or a cornice, or even a painted tile around the top of the walls can help to create more visual depth. You can also find that by installing polished tiles and putting up mirrors can result in the area reflecting itself and helping to create the feel of additional square footage for your bathroom.

Letting your walls remain a neutral color like white or grey helps to create an impression of more space. Plus, if you draw the eye upwards, the room will look taller; so add a border around the ceiling to create more vertical depth. Also, installing polished tiles and hanging mirrors lets the area reflect itself, thereby creating the feel of additional square footage.

Lightning is a necessary component in creating an illusion of more space. One way to do this is to combine the mirrors with the lighting fixtures and the color. It is important to make sure that the lighting is spaced out correctly. You should have a strip of light bulbs installed above your main mirror.

Yet another good idea for those with small bathrooms is to replace the bathtub with an upscale shower design. This could be a glass cubicle with mirrors inside or an angled shower enclosure, what is usually called a quadrant corner shower unit.

Where to Find Great Bathroom Design Ideas That Will Not Blow Your Budget

Bathroom... 98.9% near doneImage by juhansonin via Flickr

Because the bathroom is a very private room that most people will not see, it is a room where you can really express yourself. Of course, a bathroom is limited in how much you can rearrange things because of the location of plumbing, electrical outlets and load bearing walls without getting into major renovation and expense. Even if you can't change any of the major fixtures, you can still come up with many bathroom design ideas that will transform the entire look of the room.

Take some time and really look at the bathroom that you wish to redesign. Be realistic about your budget and how in-depth you wish to go. Are you contemplating tearing up the floor covering or the tile work on the walls around the sink and bathtub? If so, will you be doing the work yourself or hiring it out? You really need to have a fully developed plan and a vision of what you hope to accomplish before you even remove the first toothbrush. Grab some graph paper and measure the room or use home remodeling freeware that you can download from the Internet to help you see the finished project.

Frequent your local home improvement and home décor stores to help you get an idea of your likes and dislikes and what is available. If the bathroom is to be used primarily for children, investigate safety devices that can be installed such as tankless water heaters that can be set to safety recommended levels so the hot water never becomes hot enough to burn small hands. Also, you can install mirrors that are made of safety glass, which are much safer around children. Some other design ideas for children's bathrooms is to hang hooks and towel racks lower to make them more accessible and install a flooring that will stand up against the puddles of water that will, in all likelihood, accumulate.

For your own bathroom, consider the layout and the style that you are going for. Even if you cannot afford it or if it is not feasible to replace the major items such as the bathtub, shower, sink or toilet, you can still create quite a different design with your choices in other areas. For instance, changing the look of the walls from plain white to something richer and more elaborate will definitely make a huge difference. If you don't like the look of wallpaper or you find it very difficult to hang, but you still want some sort of pattern, mural or faux paint effect, you can learn how to do these paint effects yourself.

Either through informative videos, books, or classes held at many home improvement stores. If you don't feel that you would be able to do a good enough job, consider asking someone you know who may be a little more talented in that area or go to your local high school or college's art department and see if anyone could be recommended to you. They may also be able to use their artistic eye and suggest even more bathroom design ideas.
